You all have to excuse my ignorance but I´ve never really catched the thing about bohi... as I understand it makes the sword lighter (well duh...) but does a bohi give a sword other difference from a sword without bohi? Is there other advantages with a bohi? Is there any disadvantages? I myself is not a big fan och bohi ... why I don´t know, it just is that way.

When did japanese swords first use a bohi?

And also, what´s the difference between hi and bohi?

As I said before, you all have to excuse my ignorance. But hey, that´s why I´m here, to learn. :)

EDIT: I found my answer on the hi-bohi question just by looking back in the forum threads, I feel a little stupid now. I can pop another question then:

When chopping easy targets like waterfilled coca-cola bottles (made och plastic), do you need to do a full cleaning of the blade? I´ve done it efter every chopping and my oil is starting to drain out, and I have to be economic så that´s why I wonder.

Welcome Nyetna, Way to use the forum! As to your second question, you never want to put a wet or dirty blade back in the saya, ever! So yes at the end of each session you must wipe down the blade. Have two rags, one for just wiping of water etc. and one for just oil, keep that one in a tin or something and use it over and over, it saves on oil. you don't need a lot of oil just a thin film covering the blade will do. also once every couple of months you want to take your sword apart and clean and oil under the habaki, don't oil the nagako, don't use a lot of oil.

Buy one of these:

Last a long time. I hold it a good foot away from the blade. 4-6 sprays each side. It will last a LONG time
