:)Well took apart the tsuka of my Kat.There are two cracks ,one goes back two inches, the other three inches.I think I can fix them. Then have a full same wrap and a battle wrap, and that bad boy ain't going no where. What do you guys think?http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff274/bokim09/bobspicks183.jpg

I really don't know how that will work. I would try some epoxy to fill the cracks and go from there. :-? I have used stabilizer(minwax) to fix small cracks in antler and other materials. I am also curious as to what others may suggest. Simple motto: If it is already broke how can you screw it up:dwarf:.
Give er a try. I would avoid PC7 and JB weld if you do try seal the cracks, Devcon makes some good clear epoxy that is damb near indestructable.

It's going to be more like gluing the cracks ,clamps, etc.I think I'll fix one crack, let that set, then do the other,to keep the shape right. Then off to Ronin swords for the Kataki Maki, same ,etc.Taygrd ,if you haven't been to this site you need to check it out!Make sure you check out the services section.Jason ,you should talk to this guy he is very approachable. And his prices are right.Only thing that gives me pause are some of the swords he sells. He sells a Bushi Kat that I had and sent back for 100$ more then I paid for it.If the Kissake is the face of the Kat, this one was a two bagger! Could of been a factory secound, but it was bad enough that I haven't bought another sword from the guys who talked me into buying it.Much to your good fortune.PS> Mako,Thanks for fixing the title,I've been watching WW2 stuff all day,Stuka...SHEEESH

what is this tsuka from? I have used whats called Tacky Glue on the wood veneer to tighten up the saya, it works great, dries fast and clear. You should be able to pick it up at any hobby or craft store

i think the full same' wrap is key here. a panel adds no strenth, wereas the full wrap will. although never done nothin with a tsuka, and not anywhere near an expert, i think within reason it should be servicable.

I think Goose has a vailid point with the full same gawa wrap. Elmers or tacky glue might hold it great. Now if I was going to fix my Stuka I would use a heavy expoxy due to the forces placed on the wings during a dive=))

He actually called me for some business propositions. It's a small world. I will be sending him some swords to customize (hopefully) and selling them on Swords of Might.

I hate to sound like some on "other forums" but your best bet is to have a new tsuka made, for safety reasons. I think Brian @ Ronin Swords does tsuka.

It's a wonder I didn't get killed today at work ,for thinking about this very thing. If I'm going to do this,I might as well go the whole Nine yards.I'm being penny wise-pound foolish.I can be so cheap some times.(wonder where I get that from)So I already have a ballpark est, from brian, for the whole job.He does a very nice battle wrap.Just a few little things to sort out and i should be in business! Thanks for your imput.PS.I'm only doing this because I like this blade. For what it is ,It's nicely made,I trust this steel. As a katana it has very few redeaming quality's,but as a sword it's great and works for my ryu.I like the face of this blade.
