This review is on the Paul Chen Practical Plus katana, This is an extrordinay
Economy cutting sword. Starting off with the blade That is Forged and differentially tempered The smith then applies a special clay before heat treating to improve the edge holding ability of the blade and create a aestheticaly pleasing and functional hamon. The full size tang on this sword features the traditional file marks and blade signature (Mei) that is on all true Japanese swords. The Handle is wrapped in black cotton ito and authentic rayskin I have never seen a handle wrapped so well as the one on the Practial Plus Elite, I m talking perfect diamond pattern and beautiful rayskin wrap. This stuff is so tight it wont budge even under the most abusive practicing day after day. This sword also has a awesome one piece brass habaki with a raindrop pattern something found only on high end swords. Finally the seal at the (koiguchi) scabbard mouth is a perfect tight fit
essential for safe practice. From the kashira to kissaki this is an exceptional sword from Paul Chen and I highly recommend it for the sword arts practitioner that want a high quality sword for a economic budget.
