Not all cracks are life enders, sometimes an epoxy treatment can hold pretty well. Look for JB Cold Weld at a local hardware store.
Sometimes cracks form when a tight fitting tsuka core comes into a drier climate.
If the crack extends further than just the throat it may be a goner. Tsuka aren't one size fits all, you'll probably need another one made.

Thanks Justice,This is a pretty significant crack, more like two cracks.I didn,t try to see how far back they ran,but I defiantly can't cut with it.I'll take another look to-nite.In the worst case scenario what's my next step. Thanks for any advice,I'm really bummed out about this.Yeah I know Jason, buy another one.

I'd love to post some pic's,but last time I did that I was told I was stealing bandwidth, not being a thief this freaked me out, that was with photo bucket. This is what stops me from posting any reviews.Did I mention I don't know what I'm doing.Anyway 450$ damn!Well I guess I don't have any choice,I can't cut with it like this and that's why I got this kat.So tsukamaki here I come.

Bobo, are you going to do it yourself? It might take a couple tries, but there are tons of helpful websites out there, and I'm sure Justice and a few others here would be more than willing to help walk you through it.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff274/bokim09/bobspicks151.jpgI guess I'm going to give it a try.I just got done going over the whole process over at ausblade.com, this does not look like a easy process. Fortunately I know some pretty good woodworkers ,maybe they will help.If I could get it done for 100$ or so I'd go for it ,but a quick search tells me that's not going to happen.PS,I broke down the kat again. The CRACKS go down both sides of the tsuka, where the corners of the top of the mune are ,about four inch's,I would imagine this is fatal?

jugging from the pics I would say its fatal, you should be able reuse the same, maybe the Ito (?), and the furniture of course. I am in the middle of fixing up my Bride's sword, and to tell you the truth this stuff seems intimidating, but with a little patiences and the proper tools, it is do-able.

Thanks for the words of encouragement brian. At least I can put the menuki back on where they belong and upgrade to silk itto.
