View Full Version : The Bedroom Collection or What do you have by your bed?

The other night my insomnia kicked in so between watching episodes of Sherlock Holmes on Netflix I started dusting some of the toys in the bedroom while trying not to wake the girlfriend. Anyway it made me think about those "what do you have by your bed threads" so with the exception of a foot locker full weapons this is what I have loose near my bed.

ILL, if you have a girlfriend who don't mind all that in the bedroom, keep her. Just got all my steel out of storage, so for a long time the only thing I had in the bedroom that was dangerous was a old pair of socks. Now my zato is next to the bed and the tori on a dresser. Of course back in the day I'd have all kinds of lethal stuff in the bedroom, why there was this blonde once....:evilbat:

Illmade; that's a beautiful collection of sharp and blunt instruments my friend. I can see you're a serious collector! Rep incoming.

Mick; give Oscar a pat for me, OK?

bobO; with me it's brunettes; there was this one beauty I met in Brussels and she......Whoops! Here comes Herself......

Anyway, here's what I keep beside the bed for plinking intruders; Rossi .357 magnum, 2 inch barrel, 125 grain hollowpoints.

BobO no she doesn't mind everything on her side of the bed is hers, she has a collection that is only marginally smaller than mine...
Tora not sure how serious I am but I have been at it a long time, I bought my first kurkri at the local pawn shop when I was 17....Oh so many years ago.

Mick; if you want to see the "Judge" in action, watch the movie "Max Payne" with Mark Wahlberg.
He plays a cop who carries a "Judge" in a shoulder holster. Really tears up a stall door in a men's room.

Note: the Judge will chamber both .410 shells and .45 Colt (erroneously called "Long Colt") cartridges.

Near my bed or generally in my room???

BTW Gooseman what the Desert Eagle 44 like?
Strangely enough I've always preferred the 357 version myself, the sad thing is unless I travel outside of the UK I'll never get to shoot one or in fact any major firearm.

Thanks Mako, but I know I can shoot most bolt action rifles or a semi auto rim pistol/rifle if I join the right gun club/range but I was talking about shooting off one of these babies down a range:

I bought the eagle in 1984/5 approx. shot factory ammo in it the first year no biggie (i got big hands and weigh in at 225/250 lbs)

Had a friend custom make some grizzly bear ammo for it as a friend was pack horseing into wasington state wilderness and needed a strong side arm.

I could punch out a hundred rounds with no ill effect , other than making a bridge ache on the right side of my mouth.(i'm right handed) seemed the recoil would travel up my arm and just make my bridge ache!!

It would fire flawlessly for 300 rounds before powder fouling (gas operated) would make it unrelyable and would jam on occasion.

If kept clean as good a gun as any "COLT 1911"! as acurate as you are, meaning if you didn't flintch from the first round good to go. comes with a six inch barrel zero'd to 100yrds (yes it will shoot out that far easily) and longer barrels can be had up to i think 14"

Grip is big and not easily handled by small hands people (ie) my buddy can't get his fingers around it , it's HEAVY not a carry gun for sure!!

it will kill anything that walks on the north american continant (with a good shot !!) the clip will empty in 2 seconds but accuricy suffers Recoil ya know!!
Hope that does ya

Mako, around here if you have 9 grand in your pocket and don't mind spending 8 bucks a round, you can get one of these down the road at the local gun shop. I turned Goose onto a site shows these guns in action, gory in the extreme! side note, having met Goose let me tell you he is a big man and doesn't look like someone to be trifled with. You don't want to be eyeballing him, lol.

I have fired several rounds out of the Barrett .50 BMG Model 95 bolt action sniper rifle. Recoil was manageable but, like Goose, I am not a small man at 250 pounds. Recoil has never been a problem for me. For "shoulder slamming", a 12 ga. shotgun probably kicks as much as anything you ever want to shoot.

Tora, I always thought the worst gun to shoot as far as recoil, is the good old 30:06. After one season of sighting them in I went and bought a lead sled. damn things kick like a mule.

bobO; well....felt recoil depends on a lot of things.....weight of the firearm, weight of the bullet, weight of the shooter, whether you're "bench resting" or shooting at live game, and a semi-auto produces less felt recoil than a bolt or lever action because it bleeds off some of the gases to operate the loading mechanism. For example a .30-06 bolt action rifle with a light weight synthetic stock and a 220 grain cartridge load will kick a lot harder than a bolt action with a 150 grain load and a dense wood stock. A heavier firearm soaks up more recoil than a lightweight one. A semi auto will kick even less. In point of fact, a 12 ga. over and under or side by side shotgun with 2 3/4 inch mags produces about 12 pounds of recoil.....a .30-06 with 180 grain loads produces about 8 pounds of recoil. It also helps if the shooter is fairly hefty. A smaller, lighter weight person will feel the recoil more than a heavier person. :)

Yup, I was going to mention that these guns where all bolt action. I used to shoot trap (Champ 3 years running) and never had a problem with recoil of course thats a low brass round. Did you mention stock config this also can make a big dif. My ex wanted to shoot my buds old side by side 10g, she touched off both barrels( maybe we should only have loaded one) and at 98 lbs I thought it killed her. I mean it was like the movies, took her right off her feet. I went down to Fla. at 218 came back at 240, so I quess I get to join the big boy club. wish I was 195 again.

....Congrats on the trap championships, that ain't easy. I had the same experience as your ex with an old 12 ga. with double triggers and external hammers. I cocked both hammers and only pulled the right trigger but it doubled on me.....didn't knock me down but when the smoke cleared the gun was pointing behind me over my right shoulder and i was a mighty surprised hombre.....had a beauty of a bruise on my shoulder for a while too. Know what you mean.....seems we get thinner on top and thicker in the middle...... :ohyeah:

Got to shoot a Bushmaster BA50 awhile back. Guy wanted to sell it but I have not found a need to take out a vehicle (or have $4K to spend) so I passed. I will stick with a .338 Lapua or a .300 Win mag since I cannot image going BOOM, there $8, Boom $16.....=)). Tora I had a double barrel 12 ga go off both barrels when I closed the breach. Got it at a garage sale and it was the first time i tried to fire it. That gun is in the scrap yard now. Scared the snot out of me and dusted off about 5 yards in front of me.
Mako if you ever get to Texas I can round up a few major firearms to shoot.

Shot a 3"mag spaz 12 on a cold winters day once.

A friend owned a gun shop and bought a 460 nitro express(i think) had a box of bullets with it said he fired it 19 times more than he should've! he weighed in at 350+lbs. Was a brute of a gun , i know now why they have gun bearers on safari they be HEAVY!!!

To answer the original question I keep a Musashi -Musashi that I customized by the bed. It was the first sword I bought from SOM. The firearm varies depending upon what I did that day. Use to keep a Scottish baskethilt by the bed till it started scuffing the wall. That was a good sword and I used it to take out a few pumkins and an accidental slaying of a ceiling fan.:-O

Closest, I keep a double edged dagger under my pillow. I started sleeping with it when I went through a couple years of problems with sleep paralysis. But I have the following within quick grabbing distance:

Edged weapons:
$5 kukri from mid 90s Smokey Mountain Knife Works catalog, great piece
Case USMC fighting knife
CAS Iberia(phillipines era) Side Ring Sword
Al Massey custom leafblade sword
Bushido Tenga Katana
Musashi Bamboo katana
Musashi Dynasty katana
Deepeeka "renaissance dagger"
a Malaysian utility knife/machete/chopper, given to me by my High School german teacher
my new Kobuse style katana
and a ditch bank blade by the door, for comments

Firearms:
Taurus beretta clone(9mm)
Walther p-1
a radically modified Hi Point 9mm carbine with forward grip, reflex sight and MP5 style iron sights mounted on picatinny rails
Norinco SKS
Saiga .308
Beretta Neos .22
70s era Remington 870 Wingmaster
Charter Arms .38sp

The kukri or the shotgun are my first choices.
