Hello everyone!

Here we have my small collection. I only own a few swords as I spend most of my money customizing them. =P

From top to bottom:

Customized Paul Chen/Hanwei Practical Special
Customized Cheness Kaze
Customized Cheness Tenchi
Geisha's Blade T10 Katana (from a local seller here in the Philippines)
Masahiro (don't know what model) that is re-wrapped in katatemaki and edge blunted as I use it for iai
Masahiro MAZ-020 (I'm not sure if this is really a Masahiro)
Mogito Daisho (imitation swords)
Katori bokken

I also have another bokken, jo, wooden tanto that I used for practice; another mogito katana, mogito wakizashi, and mogito tanto but wasn't able to include them in the picture.

Then a tanto that has been in my possession since June 2007 from a reputable seller in Japan. You wouldn't believe how much I paid for this beauty... just ¥1,100!!! That's about US$10.25 back then. I only paid for the shipping from Japan to the Philippines. Even though this blade is supposed to be just a study piece because it has several kizu (flaws) and won't have that much value anymore, I consider it to be one of my prized possessions as this is my first nihonto. The seller stated that this blade is from the Shin-shinto period, hira-zukuri blade, nagasa (length) is 9.5 inches, polish is hazuya finish and that the hamon is almost gone where only some part on the obverse side and lower half on the reverse side has hamon. Tried to take a very clear picture, but wasn't successful. It's just a bare blade, doesn't even have a shirasaya.

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3269/tanto03.jpg

http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/5439/tanto04.jpg

http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/7771/tanto06.jpg

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/5048/tanto05.jpg

http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/6023/tanto07.jpg

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/9126/tanto08.jpg

The blade still has a lot of niku (meat) left, so maybe I'd practice polishing on this one and make a shirasaya for it.

Thanks ranger. Those are actually kakejiku or Japanese hanging scrolls at the background. :)

Thanks Mick.

Below are pictures of tsuba of the unknown Masahiro. If it would help, this katana came in a triangular box, with a particle board as a stand which you can put on top of the box. I believe this is a much later model than the Tora (MA-002) and the Sakura (MA-003). I just got to check the triangular box again, and saw the product # MA-009, but there was no name for it. I hope you guys can identify it.

Great collection, I love the sayas on the bottom daisho. Funny thing about nihonto, you can love them for the history, what they represent, how they were made, when they were made, and they can still be imperfect. I think making a shirasaya for it is a great idea, even retired blades deserve that honor.;)

that's a great collection Katana Hunter, I always thought that the background on your avatar was a dojo, but it's all you, great display and custom work

yeah, those sayas on the bottom daisho look sweet, but what happened to the wakizashi kurikata and why are few without sageo? if you don't mind me asking :detective:

is there any sword that Blade Master doesn't have or know about? =))

I agree 100% with you on that one. :)

Thanks! The saya on the mogito daisho really look nice, that's why I decide to keep them eventhough the handle is made of plastic and the blade made of aluminum.

The mogito daisho didn't come with a sageo when I bought them, and the kurikata was already missing on the wakizashi. My other mogito wakizashi has a "detachable" kurikata. I think I'll just get that one and put it on this one. The Tenchi (3rd katana from the top) once had a red/black shigeuchi sageo, but it was too long. It was very hard to use for iai as I always get to step and trip on it, so I sold it. I'll be replacing it with a kakucho sageo instead.

I always thought that the background on your avatar was a dojo

Hahaha. I wish I could convert my room into a dojo but its so small and cramped that my girlfriend and I couldn't fit anymore.

is there any sword that Blade Master doesn't have or know about? =))

I would rely on Mick's blade mastery skill to find out about the name of my unknown Masahiro. =)

Too bad the tanto is so tired, the Ha and hamachi is pretty much gone (which is why its a study piece) but I agree it deserves shirasaya. The unknown creature on that tsuba may be a Kappa (a Chinese interpretation of one). Just my 2 cents..Great collection! KK

Thanks, thanks!

Most collectors would turn their nose away from this blade. But me, even if this tanto is so tired, I'd still treasure it.

I hope I could include a much better nihonto in my collection one of these days. If only da gooseman would start adopting forum members... =)

Very impressive KH..well, i can say that I'm impressed with everyone's collections..Just starting out and only having 3 (soon to be 5 tomorrow..lol), I'm slowly getting there. When my father passes on, it will be alot more..will be adding claymores, sword canes, alot of wall hangers, etc...but until that day, I'm happy with mine as long as it slowly grows larger, even if it's one sword at a time :)

You guys are de best! crazy but de best!

Now- I like your tanto dude! tired, hamon missing, doesn't matter, YOU like it GREAT! and Nihonto!!!!! Only the finest first class Nihonto are flawless, makes em not only rare, but too expensive for us mere mortals!
I would make a shirasaya for it, hang it on the top most rung of your collection!

This thread on NMB about notches leads me to believe the jury is still out on this one. :)
