Hello, so this is my first custom Katana, if you want to see the WIP thread check here: http://www.swordsofmightforum.com/showthread.php?t=1770
Gentlemen, I call this the (Ko)Eda-Sasayaku Katana, according to internet translators it means "branch tree whisper", It's a Ryumon Okinawa fully custom with a "leaves" theme, with custom made menuki, fuchi and kashira and a textured finished on the tsuba, sageo and real silk black ito from SOL and repolished blade with an acid etched finished
Enjoy,

Thanks everyone, glad you like the pics
andysoard, Tsukamaki is a pain but it's not impossible, my maki is not perfect, when I was waiting for everything to arrive to do this custom, I took a musashi that had the wrap all loose and practice with it for like 3 days straight, the more you do it, the better you get at, specially the end knots
haha! blade master, I wasn't expecting that answer, good one :king::king:
by the way, I love the way the silk feels when I grip the katana, was silk always used by the samurai for their wraps or did they used something else??

I believe they used several different materials, I've seen leather, silk(of course), plain wood (with embelishments) and i have one that has a brass/copper/silver tuska.
I'm sure i've seen other stuff on tuskas but not sure if it was rattan or something else

ahh, interesting, I guess as usual, it all depended on the status that determined how 'fancy' ones katana could be
I should give the leather ito a try, I love leather seats and their smell, but I don't know if wrapped in a tsuka they might smell funky after use

you never know till you try it. But it will look good on it.

Leather is really neat on a katana. The leather is about 5 times harder to wrap than silk. It does not have much of a smell to it new. I have not cut with mine enough to see how it wears.

Not bad! Not bad at all! Very nice wish I had the patients to make something so eye catching. Keep up the good work.

So, I was walking trough the woods one day and saw this :-O:-O
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q288/cyclosporine/Eda-sasayaku/Eda-sasayaku_26.jpg
It appears that some swords DO grow on trees,:flaming: I was in need for a matching set for my eda-sasayaku katana, so I had to pick this off the branch
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q288/cyclosporine/Eda-sasayaku/Eda-sasayaku_27.jpg
It looks like it was my lucky day, cause the wakizashi grew out of the tree just like I needed it :celebration:

Very nice. They look great. The tsuka-maki looks tight.
I really like the whole daisho thing. I love my PC practical daisho. I am going to put together a wakizashi to match my custom, once it's finished and I have recovered financially.
