I also have a Raw blade being made as we speak that I'll be mounting, in collaboration with Skip (a mountable shirasaya, as Skip calls it)
Here is a sneak peek.

Well my Kawashima wasn't bad when I first got it. I have recently tried to cut with it, no good. It needs sharpening, but I think I'll leave it for display. I don't think it keeps an edge very well, as I have only cut with it maybe 10X. All in all, it is a pretty good katana. Everything was tight, the tsuka maki is tight and sturdy, and it fits snug in the saya. I did replace th seppa on mine, but that's because I like the soft plyable seppa. Mine is 1st Gen though. I would imagine the new kawashima line is better. Mine isn't DH, I think the new ones are, but I could be wrong.
Yes the O-Ren is nice. At one point it was the sharpest in the collection(it's actually my girlfriends), I don't have the hanzo bill sword, but I am going to get all three remaining swords, Bill, Bride, Budd. I've also found a ryumon tanto that looks like gogo's tanto. I think I'll buy it, or one from ebay and customize it to look the same.
Hope I answered your questions, with a bit of rambling in there too..lol.

thats cool man thanks, the bill is on the list for me next too. I dont know about movie swords i always thought they wud be poorly produced to upp the sales due to the advertising. But apparantly these handforged reps are made by masahiro. ive seen the blade for the bill, im wondering if its real hamon , from what i saw it doesant look wire brushed. but i could be wrong. overall the blade looked nice. im also lookin at the last samurai kat too.

Yup, the Kill Bill line is pretty well made. I won't use them for cutting, but just for display. The Faux leather ito looks weak. I might get some better quality faux leather ito, or get real leather ito and apply that. I had the musashi last samurai. It was ok, about the same quality as and sub $100 musashi.

i cant remember who now , but somebody on this site customized both there bill swords . and used cotton green ito . and got rid of the leather completly. i dont mind the leather, but yh it looks weak . ive seen someone cutt before with them . beach mats and water bottles . seemed fine. musashi last samurai has the bo-hi right.
the one im looking at has not a bo-hi but it is reccomended by the seller as a great piece.

I went to the hardware store today, which is heaven btw. The last place we lived there was a small section in the grocery store. Lame!!
Anyways. I got a shelf to house my PC practical trio. Look OK for now. I'm going to paint the shelf black soon.

Here's the one Jason offers: http://www.swordsofmight.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=439
At 2.5 lbs, it's a hefty swing, but I like it. The mirror polish is very cool. Note it is Masahiro, not Musashi.
I've done a shelf very similar to what you have here, Robby. Once I get a camera happening, we'll compare pics.

prabs hi
that nathan algryn last samurai katana is fully functional
ive just bought my second one the first i did a handle rewrap
on posted elsewhere on this forum you will find the blades a bit thicker than the norm the harmon isnt wire brushed on as on most kats but is treated in such a way to bring it out a bit more and if you check it out carefully you,ll see the hamon goes past the yokote line and half way up the kissaki it is a real quality piece

thanks mick ,
im glad you confirmed to me that it isnt wire brushed. its been recommended by our dealer [not saying name] .
so youve got the second, il look for pics of it . but do if you get time , or can , post closer up pics of the blade , for some reason i tend to jujde swords on owner pictures rather than promotional ones ,, well sometimes. lol

I think owner photos have more of an effect, because of the love from the owner. I know I take about 50 photos of my new swords. Every detailed cataloged. Not that sellers do or don't have the same love for the weapons they sell, but it is a bit time consuming to take photos of all your merchandise with such detail.

your completly right doom
plus they will take pictures and pose the sword , in ways that not all sellers would . ie close ups of the hamon and fittings. and the sword on basic display and out of saya.
where as the seller , is just quick one or two phots and quicklly onto the site.
however swords of might i must admit have got good option which allows you to view more angles.
Belive me ive seen some sellers who take a simple pic and then dont add any info ! .
so most of my swords in fact.
ALL of me katanas have been brought due to seeing customers own pics first. And BM [mick] has tons of photos.

I agree Jason has a nice feature to view more images.
My biggest pet peeve, as I have posted here before, is lack of kashira. The kashira makes or breaks a sword for me.

Not to argue with Mick or anything :blackeye: but my Masahiro Last Samurai does indeed have a wire brushed hamon. It even has a flaw where they stopped the brush and restarted, re-covering an inch or two the second time, creating an overlap plainly visible.
I'm of two minds on this. I understand why the forge does it, even if I don't agree with their logic. I personally would rather see no hamon at all over wire-brushed. But they have got it in their minds that this "what the customer wants" so in this price range, we have to either take it or leave it. At this point I can't afford a pricier sword, so I'm pretty much stuck with it. As long as it's sharp and tight (it is) I'll put up with the fakey hamon to get a decent cutter in this range. And when it's sheathed in the rack, it's not visible anyway.
I'm glad I have my Musashi Mokko Gata with a real hamon, so I can point out the difference to those who are interested enough to care. But at this price point, a compromise must be made. *sigh*

two things
doom your right , some koshiras are beuties. check the paul chen tsunami and the orchird katana. both are very well done.
im suprised the koshiras makes a decsion for you , for me its sometimes the tsuba !
and espically the curve of the blade.
to mayner
wire burshed hamon ? hmnn , the blade is suppose to be a good cutter tho and looks good ...........does it?

Since I don't do any cutting yet, I can't say for sure. From the heft and the construction I expect it will make a fine cutter, tho. I'll know more later on this year once I begin to cut.
Does it look good? It's gorgeous. I love the mirror polish on the shinogi-ji, the Japanese characters stamped on the blade and the silk ito is most comfortable. One of my two best swords, IMHO.
edit: it's really sharp as well.
