So yesterday a friend of mine bought the Afro sword at a local martial arts store here. I had a chance to experiment doing various Kata's and combos (no test cutting though) with this piece of eye candy, and here are my thoughts...
I'll first start with the pros. This sword is simply stunning to look at both sheathed and unsheathed. The handle is black rayskin wrapped with genuine brown leather, but I could have done without the hanging jewel at the end. The scabbard is a beautiful brown and black marble swirl, and the lacquer only accentuates its beauty. The blade itself was flawless, and seemed to be very sturdy with no wobbling at all.
Now moving on to the cons. The only real problem I experienced was with the sori. I found that it was more of a hindrance and anything. It was too easy for the tip of the blade to tilt to the right or left. Thus, you have to make sure your leading hand is firmly grasping the handle as close the tsuba as possible to ensure the blade stays striaght when striking or cutting. Plus, you have to make sure you have the jewel wrapped around the handle because it WILL slap you in the back or face.
Overall, anime fans will LOVE this sword. Moreover, it makes for a great decoration because of its eye-catching, exquisite look.
