I've competed in a few tournaments myself and found the majority of them alright. The only complaint I have about tournaments are the sparring matches. I've competed in quite a few, in both Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do and always leave dissapointed for the fact that many points are miscalled or a blocked attack gets counted.

The one thing I love about tournaments though is that great feeling you get when you win (I'm very competitive) and especially when you take first place. I think most practioners will agree on the sparring aspect, it's a common complaint I hear from nearly everyone I talk to (oh and not to mention I got thrown into a division higher than me, age wise because my divison was lacking competitors so sparring was a bit of a challenge, but good experience)

wining is great but when i lose i just get depressed for a couple days. the worst was the above mentioned teeth incident. i was in a moy thai tournament i really wasnt ready for and was over confident from my expirience in other martial arts. bottom line my face got caught between the corner of the ring and my opponents knee and then a nice man in a lab coat told me i couldnt talk for a few weeks.

When I get a gathering of friends we have one. its begins with about 25 people and we have different catagories for different styles. Kinda like a dog show, best in style then best in show. We use real weapons though so the most I got was a couple of cuts, and then I walked away with nothing. It depends. The most I ever cared for in empty hand was crane and eagles claw. Some others are okay.

You fight with real weapons? Tell me I read that wrong.

Nope, real weapons. they arn't blunt either. I have a couple of good knife wounds from me and my friends lol. Their are some pretty funny stories. But the only real way to learn to fight is if their are conquences from making a mistake. And we and the people that I was training learned. We can defend out selves from pretty much everything. Well me and my brother can anyway...the others have no hope.

did you read it? did you notice that from start to finish it was juvenile carelessness? if you didn't think anything was wrong then god help us all, This is our future.~X(
I hate to tell you this but there is no such thing as a "good knife wound"! I can tell by your writing that you've never actually experienced a true severe cut with arterial bleeding or a severed tendon. I tell you this right now, the initial hospital visit the surgery and months of muscle therapy you have to go through are sobering enough to give anyone respect for the damage a blade can do. no matter how much of a "the others have no hope" badass you think you are. hopefully thats not what it will take for you to learn to respect blades as deadly weapons.

If you think you can come to this place and talk like your a badass 50's greaser with a switchblade looking for a knife fight you'll be sadly mistaken
(no offense Mbob or Tora ;) you guys are the real deal, lol.)

I do however hope you will stay and READ READ READ for a while, ive learned and grown so much in the couple years ive participated with this forum, that it may have well been a college course! I definatly study more here than anywhere else:writing:

I'm not trying to bombard you with insults as soon as you walk through the door, I'm just trying to warn you that that kind of foolishness is not tolerated here.

Well, did I ever tell you guys, how I can go to friend's dojo, fight and beat everyone of his 20 to 30 students, fighting them all simultaneously. Without getting a scratch, or breaking a sweat!

(Er, I did mention they were all little kids didn't I?)

Vidar,
With you and your brother's skills, you both should sign up and immediately join our nation's armed services. They need all the help they can get.
With your skills they might even let you skip basic training, and just immediately install you in the SEALs or Rangers, maybe even Delta Force!

Not really a good start for you here with the above post, Vidar.
I thought you said you have been following this forum for awhile?
If so, Why post something, so silly?

Usually the only way you get me to listen to a story like this, (Vidar's) is if we are sitting in a bar, and he's buying the drinks.
Then I would be;
"Oh, Really?" "Buy me another beer!"

Well, we're not drinking, and you're not buying!

So I quess, that means............., I really don't want to hear this story! :-<

How about, we just skip the nonsense, and talk about swords?
Eh, Vidar?

LOL my BS meter is going off strong with this guy.

On topic, I've competed in Shuai-Chiao tournaments as well as Grecco Roman Wrestling competitions. Both were quite fun, but brutal at times. I did fairly well in both but I was never ranked nationally or anything.

I never did any stand up point sparring as I believe it's flawed because it only measures speed and not skill. I've seen too many point matches were an opponant wins because he or she does the same move (or a similar move) over and over again. This includes artists that were considered to be "advanced".

I am not being foolsih 1. I an saying what I do. and a good knife wound is a clean one. It was hatchets and machettes, long and short swords, three sectional staff and what ever else we had. Did I say I was bad *** NO. So stop assuming that I am saying that. I train differently then other people. I never took a course on it and I have been training like that since I was 12. By the way I hate the 50's and switchblades. Knifes in general are very useless in a fight. They are not pratical. 1 point of attack instead of the 8 with out a weapon not to mention that you know where the attack is coming from too.

WTF. This is... I'm having trouble finding words. This is the STUPIDEST crap I've ever heard. This is why the older generations look down on us young people. Because of this crap. Fighting each other with real weapons? Sounds fun until one of you dies. A knife being useless in a fight? That is blatant stupidity. A simple knife is one of the deadliest/useful weapons/tools you can use. That's why most cultures developed them. Grow up a little, and then maybe come back to the forums. No one needs to read your BS.

As we are from the same generation, I wholeheartedly agree with you. If you want to swing stuff at each other, join a Dagohir club or something where you won't land in Death Row for a hit to the head. This is a forum for people who respect the weapons they collect. Not treating them like a harmless toy. If you cannot respect the weapons you claim to collect, and if you cannot respect the people here, you're better off out the road.

Besides from you assulting me I bet that you never had to learn to defend yourself cause the gangs here will stab you. That you never EVER had to fight for your life cause some kid wanted your money and held you at machette point. Cause all the "mature people" here are so much wiser and better. Its people like that that are over confident in their abilities. You all can go and think what ever you want and shove it in your pipe and smoke it. I know what I did helped my friends and your all just incompetent children.

Very poor choice of words my friend and completely inaccurate. Many of the members here have been in conflict situations to include a few different wars. Those that respond to you respond to what they know from their experiences. That they don't talk about things like you do isn't because they haven't seen it. Its because they have seen it enough to find their place in the world. The don't have to run their mouths because they know what they have done and can do. They know their limits as well as their strengths and recognized them as obstacles to be over come rather than unwanted bits to be ignored and talked over the top of.

Most of the members here are here to learn. Whether its about which cheap katana from China they should get next or how a classical Japanese blade is made. We listen to each others knowledge AND opinions with respect and try to take what we need from them.

Training the way you say you do is inherently more dangerous than properly organized training. While you think you gained something, and in fact you may have toned your timing and learned somethings that have helped you, You have missed out on one of the keys to martial arts training. DISCIPLINE. Your resort to calling many of the members here "incompetent children" is proof of that. It is an expression of anger and in a real fight anger doesn't help focus does.

Many of the earlier posts look like a quest for attention. We have given you that, even if not with approval. Now settle in, tone it back a bit and see what you can learn from the knowledgeable, experienced, fellows here. You can still make some good friends.

Vidar sounds like a teen gangbanger looking for attention, got a whole neighborhood of them here.
Hates the world and wants to take it out on us, just trying to aggravate us to get back at the world. When he no longer get's a response from us, he will probably go out and do a drive-by shooting. Or go out with his gang and jump someone he thinks looks like one of us. Or maybe go out and beat up some wino, or poor old lady walking down the street.
Funny, all the gangs here are either black or PR's, with a moniker like Vidar, sounds like a suburban wannabe.
The best thing we can do with this guy is IGNORE him, ignore his posts, (all of his posts!) pretend he is not there. Make him invisible!
As he is just purposely anymore just trying to get a rile from us.
