I cannot wait for this one to come out on DVD. Don't go to the movies, something about crowds and sticky floors turn me off.

Mbob; I like "Unforgiven" too......in Gran Torino he plays a man much tougher and more cynical.....a war vet who still has his M-1 and knows how to use it! won't give away any of the story, but i highly recommend you see it........for the guys who don't go to theaters, I can empathize with that, I'm the same way but a few miles from here toward Kansas City there is a brand new theater complex that is kept clean and even has an "adult beverage balcony" so it's all good.....:ohyeah:

I was thinking that too...you'd think they'd do that here in the Peoples Republik of KA; then again, that might undermine the drug profits for....oh never mind!

An adult beverage balcony!

With the people I know, that is beyond comprehension. There is no way I would be caught dead sitting underneath one of those!
Years ago, at a bigtime wrestling match, I had a drunk friend flip right over the balcony, landed on his back on the floor. He got up, dusted himself off, came back upstairs and continued drinking. Had to see it, to believe it! :lager:

A Clint Eastwood picture, huh!!
If this picture is, what I think it is about, I don't know if we should allow Tora or M-Bob to be watching it. They don't need any encouragement or ideas they already have, being put into their head!
This movie could probably pass for a unauthorised biography for either one of them!! =))

Bob-O,

Both Tora and M-bob to me, are the embodiment of the John Wayne/Clint Eastwood mentality. With images of John Wayne's movie 'The Shootist' very often springing to mind! These two don't imitate Wayne/Eastwood characters, but are basis they are modeled on.

You on the other hand, are the "the Kurgan"!!!!!!!
There can ever be, only one of you!!:ohyeah:

Seen this last night with the wife. This movie is a must see. Excellent feeling of true emotions throughout and if you are like me and like Eastwood, do not miss this movie. Great story and the acting from the other actors is not the best, it all seems very real. 5 Stars!

I saw this last week, I loved it, some of the things he said had me bent over laughing and its not even close to being a comedy.

We have a theater by me that just started to sell alcohol to boost sales, there just tryin to take all the fun out of sneakin it in yourself, I myself dont conform to change very well so i think i'll stick with the old fashioned way;)

Wow, that is pretty some esteemed company to be a part of; you sure you mean me? I do love the films of, but more so, the memory of what John Wayne stood for; what I see as the best part of this nation's legacy. As for being like J.B. Bookes, maybe in some ways; I see myself closer to Rooster Cogburn in life styles though. I must confess, that to this day, my favorite pistol was, and is, the Colt SAA chambered in 44 S&W Special. One on one, I'll take it over any other handgun for that first shot on target and speed of delivery. I have always found that weapon was like an extension of my right index finger; I could naturally hip shoot with it and do quite well. For Combat though its too slow to reload; so then its 1911A-1 time.

I never identified with Eastwood as a cop, I don't do that ever. The man with no name, that feels better as well; but I'd never kill for just money. Lets see, maybe I'm about halfway between John Wayne and Sam Kennison...OH, Oh, Ohhhhhhhhhh!

B-)

Dotanuki; I am humbled.....no, really.......I think that's the nicest thing anyone's ever said about me.......those guys are two of my idols and to be compared with them is humbling....thank you my friend.....I try to uphold the Duke's values......he was my idea of a true American on and off the screen. Another idol of mine is Steve Mcqueen, who many have, sadly, forgotten.

tell me where it was located, ol' buddy and I'll go down there and see if it's still there.......do I need to take my .45?.....please say yes....... should I mention your name or are they still looking for you?.........yes, Bogey is one of my favorite actors too, along with Gary Cooper, Eroll Flynn, Clark Gable, Tyrone Power, and many more from Hollywood's golden age.......the movies from that era are my favorites.

Gregory Peck too...he will always be my image of Capt. Ahab; they don't make em like those folks any more. Or maybe its just that Hollywood has lost a lot of its creative edge in the recent past.

Just saw this and Thanks for the heads up. I always enjoy Clint but this really captured the mindset and ,yes, the language of my Fathers Generation when things were not so 'Politically Correct'. The barbershop scene in particular.. lol. Thats MY Dad! Thanks All.. KK

I saw this in theaters awhile ago... and it's in my top 10 now without a doubt. Spectacular film... I love Eastwood.

Funny story... I'm from Monterey Ca, and Eastwood lives in Carmel Ca right next to Monterey. My mom used to work at a resturant that Eastwood owned... and when I was very little, I met him a few times. I was terrified of him then, because I thought he was big a scary and the guy I saw on TV.

Heh.

He was Mayor of Carmel for awhile. :)

Wow, Gunny Highway meets The Shootist; that was my first impression upon watching Gran Torino, but seeing the dysfunction within Walt's family; I really can dig what he did. I got more from the film after I turned it off then I did as I watched it; the film was so powerful, that I had to meditate upon it a bit. I have to wonder if I'd have brass balls like Walter Kowalski if I got the same news he did. The way he wound up, taking care of his only real friends, after being pretty much abandoned by his sons; made a powerful message of love and self sacrifice. I was just as surprised as I could be, Walt should have been a chess player; his tactics were flawless.

I thank God in Heaven that I had the chance to be there for my parents when they were old and helpless; some of our closest moments came late in life.

I thought this was more of a comedy than anything else. Still good, but not great.

:-OHated to see Clint go out reaching for his lighter, guess that might be a message from the "ban smoking"lobby.I prefered him to just blow/burn the house up and shoot anyone that survived. Sure would have scared the neighboors silly, more than a bunch of "punks". Clint is gettin'sorta "long in the tooth" for many more action moves than playing his hand was a handgun and shooting it at anyone who might be walking by.The moral of the movie was better than the acting. Clint, as usual, carried the whole thing.=D>=D>=D>
