Epic, bloody, tragic, and down right passionate, Mongol delivers the mayhem of Braveheart, the spectacle of Ran, along with a close up examination of the formative years of one of the ancient worlds greatest conquerors.

I have read that Mongol is planned as the first part of a trilogy that looks into the life and times of Ghenghis Kahn; at just over 2 hours it tells a detailed and interesting story of the main character and those who helped shape his complex persona. You come away from this film feeling like you just had a glimpse inside the world of these people. You also get some incredible scenery and sweeping vistas, not to mention some incredible sky and storm scenes.

Oh, and bobO, there is plenty of good old fashioned, home spun, gut wrenching torture, which should help to keep you all warm and fuzzy on those cold nights while you roam the Steppes looking for children to feed your hounds.

I give Mongol 4.99999 stars.:horseplop:

Of all the John Wayne pictures that was the hardest to find, it is said both Wayne and Rita Hayworth developed cancer later from this film, which was set in the desert where they did Atom Bomb testing.
I always liked historical movies, the Wayne movie wasn't bad considering when it was made, I liked the Omar Sharif Genghis Khan also.
Watched the one on the History channel also, I quess I will have to check this one out too.

That would be like comparing "My Darling Clementine" to "Tombstone" on a factual basis of Earp family history in the west.

Howard Hughes pull all the copies of The Conqueror that he could off the market, and it wasn't untill after hi death that it started to be seen again...it was shot almost entirely on location at the site of the early H bomb tests and yes a huge percent of cast and crew came down with cancer..

I also enjoyed this movie, a little slow at times, but still a great movie, and for those of you who would like to pick up the Conqueror with John Wayne http://www.amazon.com/John-Wayne-Collection-Pittsburgh-Conqueror/dp/B000EQHXMI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1231821197&sr=1-2
