After researching Katana's for three weeks from various manufacturers, idecided on purchasing the Katsumoto Midnight samurai sword from Jason at Swords of Might. Jason gave me a great deal on the Katana and i am truely impressed with his service and this Katana.

I wanted something as a wall hanger, conversation piece and to cut with occasionaly that represented as close to a true Katana as possible for my price range. The blade is beautiful as well as the fittings and the saya. The silk was also a part of my decision to purchase the Katana. There are no flaws anywhere that i could find, the blade is perfect and sharp, the silk is tight and easy on the hands.

I will attach some pictures, i am not a great photographer so be with me.
jason did not have a wood bokken that had a wood saya and wrapped handle, many places are out of stock but i did find one, with this, i plan on learning how to handle a katana before i cut with mine, i also plan on taking classes with a local dojo. Any way, i am throughly pleased with this sword and recommend it to anyone who wants to cut with occasionaly and display it on the wall.

Congratulations on your purchase, it's quite a beautiful sword :) The pattern on it is quite eye-catching, almost want to buy myself one (I don't own any folded katanas)

Hmm, when did we get this tough guy --> Samurai_DeathWhatever you do, don't be the guy on the right, although now I'm tempted to replicate that smily with a big ball, put some red substance in it, give it a hat and some legs and chop it up :) That would make for an interesting video

I had a race horse named blewbayou chic in the early ninties and my racing team i named blewbayou racing a later on, the name has stuck.

Out of curiousity, do you have any information on the forge this sword was made at? I have not found anything on the net. The tang has "Katsumoto Seki City" and some chinese characters i believe. Also, do you know if they are going to make a short sword eventually to match?

Another Horseman, Welcome to the forum. Never owned a race horse, but I've rubbed a bunch of them.

The sword was made in China at the same forge as most other brands are made.

I just received my Midnight Samurai yesterday :Praying:, and can echo Blewbayou's sentiments fully. This is a great looking sword with many high-end features, especially for the price. I'll try to include some comparison features that my particular sword has, to traditional features for the enthusiast or someone just looking for a certain feature in a sword.
(Bear with me, I'm new to the forum & in the process of learning the Japanese terminologies)

Blade Features:

Mune (cross-section) shape seems to be Ihori 233
Sori (Blade curvature) seems to be Torii/Kyo
Kissaki (tip) seems to be a Chu (med.) variety with no noticible Yokote (dividing line) 234
Hamon is closest to a Toranha pattern 235
Hada contains similar patterns to the Ayasugi and/or Mokume patterns 236 237

I'll try to include some graphics with these names later. I am also waiting on a furniture set to install on the sword, very similar to Jason's Osprey Tsuba set. http://www.swordsofmight.com/ProductImages/samuraiswords/tsuba/Osprey_Tsuba_Furniture_Set.jpg

It is a great sword for the price with the features it has, i fully enjoy it and it is as close to owning an original folded steel sword as i will get.
I have had many comments about it and offers from people to buy it.

I like the furniture you are getting for it, where did you order it from? When you get them installed, show some pictures so i can see it.

Blewbayou;

Some of the previous threads had listed "ARTSFENG" on ebay.
http://stores.ebay.com/Samurai-Sword-Tsuba

My contact persons name was "Fei"
mailto:artsfeng@yahoo.com.cn (artsfeng@yahoo.com.cn)

This site has hundreds of items, but it takes awhile to get them delivered from China, and now is the time of the Chinese New Year, so orders are not being processed until after Feb.7th. I will try to get some pics after the furniture is installed, if I don't lose some fingers during the tsuka removal! This sword is wickedly sharp, almost too sharp. Thanks for the furniture selection comments guys.
